Next up is our chorus guitar part, which is where we change keys and kick up the dynamic of our song. We have two choruses with the same feel and chords, playing those signature stops along with our vocal and instrumental melodies.
For both choruses, we will playing the same eight bar chord progression;
|| A D - Bmi E - A A/C# D - E - A D - E Fdim7 - F#mi D - E ||
The syncopation is a little different for the chorus. You will be playing the same eighth-to-two sixteenth note syncopation for each chord, emphasizing the downbeat of each for the first few chords and for the main motif of the chorus.
It obviously changes up when you get to the A/C# to D part where you come on the upbeat of beat 1. As an added bonus, I am going to teach you the melody that happens over the E at the end of each progression. We don't have the vocals in for this melody, so playing on the guitar if you can will sound great. You can play this melody if you want, or just play the E chord with the same syncopation as the rest of the band.
After each chorus, we then switch back to our main motif from our intro for two bars before kicking into the next section. You will play both choruses the same way with the same ending.
