Description

Lastly, we are going to explore our first and only chord extension in this tutorial. The 9th is a very common extra color to add to any chord. When added to any type of 7th chord, we call this extra note a 9. If there is no 7th present, this extra note is often called a 2, or sus2. This is an on-going debate in the musical world, and you may come across this in different varieties within your own musical experience.

This in-depth lesson will cover this concept using a C9 (CEG-Bb-D), Cmaj9 (CEGBD), and Ami9 (ACEGB.) We are simply embellishing on the chords we have already looked at in this tutorial. This is just another way that you can sound more authentic in your choice of notes when playing rhythm or lead. Use these tips and concepts in your own way, and have fun exploring there endless possibilities and applications.
