'fess up fellow GAS junkies. What guitar gear/studio kit did Santa leave under your tree or gifted in your stocking this year?

I got 'The Blues Fake book' with 400 blues songs in it.

It will keep me busy for a long time to come.

Santa must have lost my address!

However, my thoughtful wife picked up the slack and I was given a nice little gift card for our local music dealer. It may just find itself being used today for a BC108 cab to match my Vox MV50 :)

This year the diet is definitely gonna stick!

Checked that kit out. Perfect pairing William. ...and the perfect wife who'll encourage GAS shopping.

I'm confused though. Perhaps you can clear it up? The BC108 is single speak mono spec, and yet has dual parallel inputs? How does that work with the single speaker out from the MV50? Is it something to do with the impedence at the selectable power settings on the MV50?

No GAS (I mean, I did have some gas, but that's another story......). Over the last week, I moved from Chicago to the Atlanta area and my Christmas Eve was movers hauling all my belongings in to my new house.

For the record, movers did not move my guitars. All of them somehow fit in my back seat without smashing them. That's nine of mine and my wife's Taylor Baby and our shared mandolin. All arrived safely (including my cat, who did an admirable job of meowing most of the way down from her comfy home in the very back of my SUV...).

No GAS. But then again, I did buy two guitars in the last year so I should be good for now.....[br][br]Oh who am I kidding, next up will probably be this one:

GAS planning in the face of temporary adversity. A true devotee.

Curiosity couldn't help itself. Les Paul Special Tribute DC. Some rather nice inherent design and technical features and appointments there, and all at a reasonable SRP for a guitar bearing the Gibson logo on the headstock. Around the same in AU at present taking into account exchange rate.

Have you held one? I'm curious as to the weight with its solid mahogany body in a double-cut. Gibson don't spec on their website that I could see.

Forgive me father, for I too have 'sinned'.

Santa did revisit on Xmas eve, and somehow managed to fit all 22KG of this into my Xmas stocking.

Mea culpa, I did sense a tense GAS intolerance moment from the initial expression on my wife's face when it was 'unwrapped', understandable considering my purchase of Blackstar's Artist 30 Blonde a month ago. But SWMBO quickly forgave this penitant once my 'acts of contrition' were discovered, opened and inspected.

Excelsior!

My wife got me a Peavey 25 Watt, Transtube Solo Amp. Perfect size for practice and home use. And she also got me a very nice music stand which will come in very handy.

Blessings all,

Dave

[p][br]Thank you William.

I think so too, but my wife isn't as keen when I let loose with it. All those classic rock riffs have soooo much more presence played on it. Overkill in terms of potential volume just for a Home Studio, and sure to make even friendly neighbours enemies if abused, but Whooha! I love this unit. It has exceeded all expectation I had of it.

I've found it remarkably responsive at reduced volumes necessary for extended personal practice if wanting to use it that way too, although I'm fortunate enough to have alternative amplification tools to that end which are friendlier to others' sensitivities.

[br]Has your gift card materialised into a VOX BC108 yet?

[p][br]Very nice Dave. Solid state tube emulations have certainly attained an impressive phase in their development as perceived by these old ears.

Good health and best wishes to you for your guitar objectives for the coming new year.

No, I decided on another setup. To date the Vox has been in our music room hooked to a Peavey 4 x 12 cab. But in our living room I have one of our PA heads set up in the corner. And I run our mixer into the head. This has been very good for 2 reasons:

1) The Cerwin Vega CVE10 sounds tremendous

2) The CVE10 has both XLR inputs and Bluetooth. This dual input system allows me to run the mixer into the XLR inputs and I can connect my phone via Bluetooth. So in a fairly small package I can run jam tracks while playing.

The disadvantage has been it is totally clean. A reasonable work around was to add my Boss Blues Driver to the chain. But then I thought, why not just run the Vox VM50 instead? So that is what I did just yesterday and I am happy with how it sounds.

So the gift card was used for a pretty groovy "Paisley patterned" strap for my Cherry Burst! The strap has colour tones that pick up the gold fleck in the pic guard. I will have to post a pic.

Do. The aesthetic of that Godin is DDG.

What are your thoughts on the playing the neck and PUP tones after owning it a while?

Regarding tones manX, I made a video outlining the various pickup tones below

Hey manX,

As far as weight, it's lighter than even a chambered Les Paul. The DC Special is about 7(+) pounds (which, I think is 3kg). Versus even a chambered Les Paul coming in at 9 pounds (4kg)...and wayyyyy lighter than my nearly 12 pound beast.

I haven't played one but mostly the neck matters to me in as far as playability. It's the 60's slim taper which both my current Les Paul and my (long lost) Les Paul I had when I started out. That neck always feel like 'home'.

I'm mostly looking at it (someday) because I desire a guitar with P90's. Those pickups havea kind of 'juice' that I dig. My Gretsch Jet has a good bit of that vibe (I love the 'tron' pickups in that guitar) but....well....GAS...You know how it goes.
