Palm Muting And Syncopation

Description

In this lesson we’re going to look at palm muting with our thumb covering the low E A and D strings.

This is pretty simple, but it’s important to get the basics as solid as possible. I have a nail on my right thumb, but you can do this equally as well without one. Start by putting your palm down on the bridge of the guitar. The aim is to only mute the E, A and D strings. Experiment with keeping your palm down and plucking these three bass strings. The further you move forward the more muted the strings are, while the further back you go the less muted.

I usually prefer a less muted sound further back. Another thing to keep in mind, is ideally you want each string to have the same volume and attach.. For instance, you don’t want the E string totally muted while the D string still has some resonance. Try to keep them all similar in sound.
