Has anyone ever heard of these amps? They're Canadian, so I don't really expect many replies. I know they made amps back in the 60's, and that they're related to Yorkville, which is related to Long & McQuade (a guitar store in Canada

Anyways, the guy at the Log & McQuade was telling me about tis amp. It's all tube (there are ten of them), 40w, has a 12 inch Celestion (i think that's how to spell it) speaker, and channel switching. I forget what else. Apparently, it has really ggreat tone. So this amp is selling for $599 Canadian, or about 10 cents American. No, seriously, it's about $400 Yankee bucks.

And, i'm gonna trade in my Fender Frontman 25W against it, so that'll bring the price down by about $100 CAD, or $70 USD.

So, again, does anyone know about this type of amp? Is it any good? Is this a good deal? Thanks a lot for your help.
... and that's all I have to say about that.

It seems like I remember some old reviews in Guitar Player that said good things about Traynors - I don't really remember when, though. Apparently Traynor amps were made by Yorkville. http://www.yorkville.com still has information about Traynor amps - see the archives. Also, check out the reviews at http://www.harmony-central.com.

My first amp was a traynor. I really liked it. The only reson I got rid of it was it weighed a ton, though in retrospect I wish that I had keeped it; I appreciate classic tube tone far more these days.

Hey guys - I bought the amp! It's wicked!

Again, it's 40w, but that's 40 tube watts, so it's really loud. It's all tube, actually, there are only 5 tubes - 2 for the overedrive and 3 for some other stuff. It sounds really wicked for the price - I'd recommend it to anyone who asked me what a good amp is for under $600 CAD.

If anyone else has any comments on this amp, let me know.

You now own a piece of Canadian music history. Traynor amps were built by musicians, for musicians. They were meant to handle the abuse that pro gear is subjected to as it gets dragged around from gig to gig.

Yorkville doesn't make guitar amps anymore. They now make some of the best PA gear in the world. Check them out at http://www.yorkville.com

One of the first tube amps I played was a Traynor Bassmaster. The name sounds more like fishing tackle than a ballsy amplifier, but that mother delivered the goods. I can recommend Traynor to anyone who's looking for real tube sound in a rugged, high-quality amp.

Would you believe Yorkville has revived the Traynor line? Check out their new YCV40 tube amp!

hey - Lordoftheetcetera - that's the amp i got - the YCV40.

It really rocks - vintage reverb, 40 watts, killer tube distortion, about 1000 pounds, though.
... and that's all I have to say about that.
