Material is a personal choice based on what sounds good to you. Fortunately, slides are pretty cheap so you can try several materials without breaking the bank. You may even have something around the house that turns out to be a good slide. Stories abound about blues players using all sorts of things. I've got a glass slide, brass slide, and stainless steel slide within hand reach right now.
