Dear Mike,

I enjoyed the AC/DC Hells Bells Lesson.

However, for the solo it is mentioned A minor pentatonic is used.

I would think on the D chord the D minor pentatonic is used, and a small part even sounds D major pentatonic.

Could you please give some extra advice, I think this would really help me and other people to really understand in detail how this solo is played.

Thanks,

Cheers,

Dominique

Hello there -- yes you are correct!

Around bar 40 when the chord progression under the lead stays mostly on the D chord, Angus does shift to playing off that D chord. For bars 40 and 41, he is still using notes from A minor, but you can see how it all revolves around that upper D chord shape - so you could also think of that as D mixolydian.

For bar 42 into 43 he uses a D major pentatonic lick, and the last lick in bar 43 is D minor pentatonic (he pulls off from the minor 3rd).

Hope this helps!
