Guitarist Vs guitar player

Hi! all, I just want to know the correct definition of guitarist and guitar player, is there any difference.

Because, only for some person we call as guitarist but not others, but they could play guitar.

A music director could play keyboard as well as the guitar but we don't use the word guitarist, we use as music composer.

So, what is the specific/unique character of the guitarist like Eric clapton, BB king, Jimmy page, John petrucci, etc..

The terms are largely interchangeable. I suppose you could make some distinction like:

A guitarist is more accomplished at playing guitar than a "mere" guitar player. Or a guitarists plays guitar professionally.

But any strict defintion of guitarist is "a person that plays guitar". In other words, a guitarist is a guitar player. And a guitar player is a guitarist. :)[br][br]

[p]In that case you are referring to a person's primary function or primary instrument in some specific context. So, a composer that can also play guitar can still be called a guitarist.

They are all guitarists. Or guitar players. Some of them are also singers, songwriters, arrangers and, or composers.
