OK, old (72) raw beginner here. When I have the guitar in a "normal" position, I have trouble getting the strings to all ring out, and my left hand starts cramping. If I put the butt of the guitar on the bed and almost straight up, I can get everything to ring out very nicely, and it's comfortable. Assuming I can't take the bed with me to the campfire, what can I do to fix this? I do have short, fat fingers.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi jantecki19,

When first learning guitar, it can be uncomfortable. Make sure you hold the guitar with a relaxed grip, but also have the guitar's body up against your stomach.

[br]Also, what do you mean when you say you put on the bed? Are you playing the guitar as it's flat?

Make sure your back is straight and your wrist is not awkwardly angled. If you haven't alread, please take a look at our Guitar Fundamentals level 1 course where it shows you how to properly hold a guitar. check it out here: https://www.guitartricks.com/lesson.php?input=21987&s_id=1766

Sorry - on the bed is the butt of the guitar, then the neck up at about 70 degrees.
