Hi Mike,

As a result of your excellent lessons here (I'm working on Duck and Run) I bought my first electric guitar yesterday and a modeling amp. I play a steel Seagull and a Cordoba Loriente. I bought a Fender Telecaster Elite but I'm considering to swap it for a Strat. Which is your preference ? Or would you go with something else ? (I have 45 days to swap). I know there are thousands of comparisons on the 'net. I intend to work through all your lessons as time allows (in answer to the question "what do you want to do with it") :).

Thanks for the great work.

Congrats on your new axe! That is one great guitar, and if you were to keep it, I'm sure it will bring you many years of enjoyment.

Since you are considering a strat, and this is your first electric, you might consider going with an HSS strat -- which is a strat with 2 single coils and a humbucker in the bridge position. I see they make this model in the elite series.

I only offer this as a suggestion for you, since having a humbucker on your guitar gives you a bit more flexibility in the tones you can get out of it, and many rock songs use that kind of pickup for a thicker, more powerful sound.

Just something for you to consider since you asked.

Good luck!
Mike

My guitar shop has an "oily pearl" American Elite Strat HSS Shawbucker on the rack that they're going to let me try out. Thanks for weighing in Mike.
