Tom
I'm working through Hot Rod Lincoln but have trouble with the speed/ technique in picking of the intro. Are there any special tlips to learn or is it a matter of practice.
Great lessons by the way

I would say matter of practice the GT metronome will help you develop speed over time also your finger muscles have to memorize the feel so the more you play it the better it will come out i also would like to add alternate picking can be very helpful so give it a thought this lesson is for speed building http://www.guitartricks.com/lesson.php?input=16289 heres a lesson for alternate picking http://www.guitartricks.com/lesson.php?input=16045 alternatively you can type speed or alternate picking in the search box there our many many lessons on these

Dear Tom,

I saw your advice to Vic regarding the speed lessons on 11/29/2015. I wanted to let you and Vic know that I worked on Ben's speed lesson most
everyday since then and I just now can do the Hot Rod Lincoln lick up to speed. I say this just to give an idea of the patience that one may need to have. It took me four months. Doesn't mean it will take everyone that long
but it will require diligent work.
Thanks Tom so much for that advice you gave Vic and thanks to Vic for
asking! I always wanted to get that lick down. Now that has opened up
a whole new world of cool licks. Tom can you recommend another song
you teach that utilizes that speed picking I've developed and takes it further?
Thanks Brad

Hi there... sorry for the late reply!

One exercise I use for speed picking is this:
1- Practice the alternate picking on a single note to tighten up the right hand
2- Add the left hand notes to the mix and try to keep the clarity and precision from (1)
Alternate between 1 & 2. This should help smooth things out... it takes a while but it sounds like you're already on track.

Good luck! Tom :)

As far as other fast songs to work on...

Try Foggy mountain break down. It's really fast and fun. It'll give you a run for your money :)
