Exercises
I am new. I feel like I need to do some exercises, and or drills after I turn my computer off. I am not sure what to do and how long to do them. Should I concentrate on moving my fingers up and down the strings and frets first?

Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are. - John Wooden
Reputation is what other perceive you as being, and their opinion may be right or wrong. Character, however, is what you really are, and nobody truly knows that but you. But you are what matters most. - John Wooden

do the chromatic scale (Finger Gymnastics) up and down the fretboard. Start slow at around 65BPM doing quarter notes, 8th notes, 16th notes, etc. and then work your way up to faster speeds.
This will strengthen up your fingers and give you good speed and give you a good feel for the fretboard and where your fingers go when you play!

This is something that has always bugged me. I've always felt I needed something to just practice instead of just playing songs. Last night I found this link on Pebber Browns website. Gives a lot of good tips on what you should be practicing. A lot of it is just the basics, but that's what it takes to get good. I suggest watching the video and following along as best you can. It's boring but you'll get the idea of what hes trying to teach you as far as practicing goes.
Putting this in another similar thread as well.
