Last month, while driving through a neighborhood, I spotted the headstocks of these two peeking out of a garbage bin:

A Schecter C-1 Elite and a Peavey EXP Limited Series.

After some neck work, new strings and polishing, I just tripled my guitar collection.

Is this going to be a great year for me, or what?

The neck on the Schecter was bad. The tech I took them to had some doubts, but with some tinkering, he got it into shape. It has just a wonderful warm tone (mahogany construction) and so much different from my main ax, a '94 Strat Plus.

The Peavey neck was in much better shape. Nothing against the Peavey, but it pales next to the Schecter. Certainly, though, it didn't deserve a place in the dumpster.

The more I tell this story to, the more theories I get as to why these guitars were thrown out.

1) Wife/girlfriend/mistress got pissed and hit back where it hurts (most of us) the worst.

2) Renter bolts after not being able to meet the payments and the owner/bank cleans house.

3) Barre chord practice finally sent someone over the edge.

Any other ideas?

It's got to be #1. That's the first thing I thought when I read your post, haha.

But, yeah, that's awesome. Congrats on the find. I can't even imagine finding a couple guitars.
