ok, ok, i know im asking some apparently dumb questions that you veterans probably find pathetic, but what are you guys talking about when you say to throw in vibratto or whatever it is? what is vibratto and how do you do it? is it when you play a note and you wiggle your finger to make it sound funny or something?
thanks
sorry for the stupid questions
this is enthusiasm.

yes, you move your finger around, making the note slightly higher/lower/higher lower...

There are different kinds of vibratos, singers use them too, and you can listen to Ella Fitzgerald, Sinatra, to see how they make their notes vibrate at the end of their phrases.

One of guitar's most famous vibrato is BB king's, made by shaking the hand really fast (reminds me of a bee) you can listen to people's vibrato, but you have to find your own (I should say your owns, since you should have several vibratos)

Steve Vai has a pretty good article about this on his website.

Vibrato is VERY important in the style I play, if I didn't play with vibrato IMO my phrasing would sound very weak..

Try going up different scales playing different speeds of vibrato, that helped me.. As trenkillah said, Vai's lesson on his site is good too :)
