So I have mostly decided on a new low end-but better than starterpack amp, like a line 6 spider 3, and as good of a used guitar that I can find and afford. Advice there is welcome but my question is about the guitar.
Other than fret wear, what do I look for in a used guitar? I currently have zero playing ability so I can't really try it out as some might.
Then there is the model preference. I like the sound, based on internet videos, of the les paul or at least the humbucker pickups. Is the guitar or the amp more responsible for the difference in character of the sounds? But there are so many LP models even within the legit Epiphone line (Gibson is not in my budget) that it makes my head spin. I also like the styling of some of the lower end Ibanez guitars and alot of them seem to have humbuckers.
Finally, I keep reading how Ibanez is so well suited for metal. Does this mean that they may not be as easy to play or sound as good in other types of music? Do guitars have that kind of tunnel vision?(I hope not). I will be interested playing ZZ-Top, Black Crowes, Dire Straites and maybe as heavy as Soundgarden but not much heavier,,,, more mainstream rock than metal. But I would also like to try a few songs that are normally heard on an acoustic like "She Talks to Angels" and I can't think of the name of the Zep song and I don't have it here in front of me now but it starts with, "hey lady,,, you go the love I need".
Enough rambling from me, I heading off to the local pawn shop and music store for more research. I don't plan to buy anything unless the price(or package) it simply too good.
Thanks in advance for your advice,
KFS
