ive noticed that alot of tricks say van halen is better
that rhoads or rhoads was better than van halen
the simple fact is how do u people even compare
rhoads with van halen rhoads was clearly a way better
guitar player than van halen. i mean clearly what it is
is that i think all u van halen lovers never even gave rhoads a chance so for all u people who say van halen is
better than rhoads explain your thoughts:

i used to think van halen was better. however, i started listening more and more to randy, and i disovered more and more that he was really really good. some thingss i noticed were that van halen's tone and solos were all pretty similar, while Randy's varied a lot, take for example, Dee. also, randy had the knowledge and theory to go along with his music. he knew what he was doing, i doubt van halen knew as much as rhoads did. in my opinion Eddie is very good, but rhoads is much better.
To improve technique and of course trying to keep all as clean as possible. I know my own limits and speed limits and so on I never play anything I'm not capable of. That wouldn't make any sense. After three years of playing I tried to play everything as fast as possible and that sounded, I would say, like shit, and I didn't realize that if I'd play bit slower things than I was capable of playing then everything would sound much better.

Rhoads had great technique but Van Halen was more innovative. I'm not crazy about Heavy metal but I can listen to these two guys all day long, they both were(and are) great! Bring back David Lee Roth though.

Van Halen plays what he wants to play
Rhoads plays what he wants to play
I play what I want to play
Who cares who's better??? What's better in art?
Next thread, why orange is better than blue?

Personally i take the view that they were equally good on guitar, but rhoads was a better musician, because he varied his stuff more, and had a wider musical range. Dont flame me for this, its just my opinion...

Even though I prefer Randy's playing, to say who is better is pretty pointless as they both have their individual style

Kinda like comparing Bach to Beethoven?

I was about to throw a spanner in the works and say "Orange," however, I've reconsidered and seen the error of my ways - it soooooooo blue!!!
Seriously though, lalimacefolle had it right - what's better in art? Eddie probably caused a bigger stir when he was first around, but he's also had a few more years than Randy...
I'm not really choosing which is better, guitargod420 made a very interesting point, but you could argue that would Randy have been able to of [i]written[i] the thing Eddie played? More to the point - do we really care?! It all inspired a generation and then some, surely that's the point?...
Personally, I'd go with Randy, but I can't honestly say he was better as such...(God, I wish I knew what I meant!!!)
Your thoughts?...
Don't worry too much about me, ignore me long enough and I'll go away.

though i know i shouldn't when i compare guitarists on my own, the question i ask myself is similar to what guitargod420 said: would Rhoads be able to play Van Halen's stuff and vice-versa. My answer to this question, and i've done a lot of thinking since this post started, is that while i would like think rhoads is better, however, as guitarists i would have to say they're pretty equal. HOWEVER, as musicians, i would have to say Rhoads because of all his knowlegde about music theory, etc.

Nevertheless, it is difficult to compare guitarists especially one's with dfferent styles, and since every guitarist has a different style, it's nearly impossible.

but gosh, I wish I had his hair!!!

Speed has nothing to do with talent... And Vai has TONS of it.
