Kitaro mainly composes with keyboards/synthesizers to get his sound. He does also play guitar sometimes. I know that John Defaria (Guitarist from "The Miami Sound Machine") and Angus Clark played guitar on some of Kitaro's compositions.
If it's the guitar/synthesizer genre that you are after, you may want to check out Marty Friedman's "Scenes" solo album. It was co-produced by Kitaro........Awesome;;;;;;; Tangerine Dream is another.

Kitaro is an amazing composer, but check out Angus Clark play this Strat (Looks like it has a Floyd Rose) on the song Kokoro.

I do like the tone and feeling better on the studio version off the "Mandala" album, But does sound awesome live as well..
