Hey guys. I woke up the other day and was wondering if the letters of my name could produce a melody, so I wrote my full name, and then erased the letters that are not musical notes. What was left is:
F, E, D, B, E, B, A, A, A, E, C, A.
Without changing the order of the “notes” I made a score using Powertabs, and after that I programmed drums, bass, and synth. Finally I recorded my guitar and rendered the mp3 file.
I know that this is not what you call a nice piece of music, but I had to do it, because the curiosity was killing me, and I wanted to share my craziness with you.
zipped file
Now the question is…Does your name produce a nice melody?
It’ll be cool to hear the melody of your name.
Oh yeah, this is the Theory Forum, so I guess if I say that the chord playing in the backing is a Fmaj7(#11) and the letters correspond to the F Lydian Mode, justifies the fact that I’m posting it here.
Cheers.
The melody of your name.

Unfortunately the melody of my name would just be A C E
Its an A minor triad!

Another thing you could try is assigning frets to each letter according to its place in the alphabet. A would be first fret, M would be 13th, and so on.

lol that's a pretty cool idea
First time I here of it. Nice!
B E A D E A .... well maybe some odd time tune in there :)

Actually, what I do is start on the low E. So an H, for example, which is the 8th letter, could be played in the third fret of the A string, since that's the same as the 8th on the E.
The Z would be the third fret on the B, if I worked it out right.

mine would be reaaally bland... AEAEAE...brilliant idea though ive never thought of it...

If I just pick out the musical notes, mine is B E D D A A.
But if I do it the way where each letter is a note, I get something like:
e-------------------------------0--0-------------------
B------------------------------------------------------
G-----2----------------------------------2-----3-------
D-----------3-----4—3--------1-------------------------
A-------------------------------------------3-----2----
E--1-----4-----3-------3--0-----------0----------------
By the way, I was wrong in that earlier post. A Z would be the first fret on the high E.
This is neat. I'm going to make solos up based on random sentences.

Hmmmm…Maybe playing a Bm7 (no 5th) add11. [B,D,A,E]
And a lick based on the Minor Pentatonic without playing the F#.
Oriental instrumentation to make it even more interesting.
I wander how that would sound.

In german notation H = B and B=B flat.
Also don't forget Do - Re - Mi - Fa - Sol - La - Si (or Ti) These correspond to C D E F G A B.
This gives you even more letter to choose from ;)

That line would sound cool over an A5 power chord.
I like it, you could move from 5th to 12th position.
e-------------------12--------------
B---------------10------------------
G------------9----------------------
D---------7-------------------------
A------7----------------------------
E---5-------------------------------
Man, you can do lots of things, plenty of natural harmonics, dives or even sweep tapping.
