i beleive that's how you set your equipment or rig when you play for instance my setup is a Fender Strat Through a Peavy 212 Bandit Transtube amp. effects: Danelectro Echo,Dunlop Crybaby, And Danelectro Pastrami Overdrive through my effects loop. And a Keyboard through the low gain input for rythyms and drum beats. Hey i could be wrong let the ekstasial one handle this one.

And that's the bottomline............

Jake is right, but there is another 'setup.'

An steel string guitar (electric or acoustic) sometimes will be out of whack where it doesn't tune up right. Some chords sound in tune and others don't. You keep tuning it up, but it still sounds out of tune. If this is your problem, you need to have someone do a 'setup' on your guitar. This consists of

1. moving the saddles to fix the intonation (making the 12th fret note the same as the open string).
2. straightening any warps in the neck.
3. filing/resetting any worn/imperfect frets.

Lots of repair guys do a bad setup. But a good setup is a thing of real beauty.

I know a guy in Berkeley, CA who does a good setup. I think if I ever move away I will still bring my guitars to this guy.

Most new guitars need a setup right out of the box. My Martin D28 (a beautiful and very expensive guitar) was a real drag to play until I had a setup done.

Hope this helps.

Jon

I recently bought a Mexican Strat, and took it away from the store right away, but I knew it would have to return sometime...

So I let my beautiful guitar get out of my hands for 4 whole days while the tech at the shop did my set up, it sounds like a whole different guitar now and the action is very very low.

When I got it home I played for 4 hours straight, and it sounded fantastic.

Let the pro's do their thing, you won't be sorry!

When I got my BC Rich Warlock intonated and adjusted, it cost $20. I'm starting to think that was a bit much, does anyone else agree?

Jake

I got my set up done for free cos I bought my guitar there, but normally it would cost me around Ā£25 which I think is about $17??

the shop I go to won't LET me pay for that stuff, I still have to pay for parts, but I guess they figure I do enough business w/ them that I can get stuff like that done for free.

I don't know about the rest of you but this is getting really old really fast. I'm going to bring this up with the other hosts.

that guy **** **** ****... wait a second, I'm just typing in a bunch of asterisks. never mind.

anyways, my local guitar shop does my setup for free, and they do a great job.

By the way, what did you guys do to panteraboy? how did you cut him off?

It is easy to cut somebody off when you are the webmaster.

Well, he could do that. But it is more trouble for him to sign up than it is for me to lock him out. So, eventually, the guy just gets frustrated and quits.

And if he doesn't, there are other ways.
