I grabbed the bull by the horns and and tightened the truss rod- it took four attempts, but now it's playing like a dream.

Remember that a lot of times, especially with acoustic necks, the truss rod adjustments take some time to really take effect. You have to give the wood time to settle into place before you really begin to notice a difference. Sometimes this can cause you to adjust too far... Tomorrow you might notice that the adjustment is farther than what you wanted it... Just a nice tidbit for future adjustments. Congrats and happy guitar tweeking from now on! Maybe this will make you brave enough to tackle some other adjustments!
