When I record with cakewalk : i first record a drum track and then record rhythm , bass etc.
If I then try and delete the first part of the drumtrack - so the guitars come in first - I can still faintly hear the ' deleted drums '.

Hmmmm...I know in Cakewalk music creator pro there is a button I have to click called "apply trimming" Don't know if the same applies to your version though.

OK this may be a dumb question but, when you recorded the other stuff did you use a microphone ?

If you had the speakers playing the drum track it is possible the mic captured it as well as the vocals or guitar or whatever you were recording and you a listening to bleed through.
My instructors page and www.studiotrax.net for all things recording.

No, I don't think it was the mic, it was worse with the Drag and drop drummer -drum loops - i'll try and just record the drum loops on a single track and try and delete some of them....
many thanks

I recorded four drum loops on a single track and then deleted two of them - they deleted completely - so it must have been the Mic - excellent - thanks again

Tip - use headphones when you are recording guitar parts. Pan and mix the tracks as you record so you can get a better feel for what works, also helps to get rhythm tracks a lot tighter if you use 100% pans. Drums in the headphones will also reduce the potential for extraneous noise bleeding over to the mic (as you experienced). You may have to move out of the room with the amp to do this though, otherwise it might be too noisy for headphones (an isolation booth is ideal but not many people have those in their bedrooms!).
