Description

We're going to explore the song "Jump, Jive, an' Wail" as made famous by the Brian Setzer Orchestra. This song was originally written and performed in 1939 by jazz trumpeter, composer, and bandleader Louie Prima.

What made this particular version special was that Brian Setzer used the same classic rockabilly guitar style he developed with the Stray Cats, adding the horn arrangements of his orchestra to give the song a rockin' big band sound.

In this set of lessons, we'll cover some chords that are used in swing, jazz, and rockabilly which are 6th, the 7/6 (with a 7th and 6th in that order), and 7th chords with a sharp 9.

We'll also cover the rhythm style commonly used in rockabilly and swing. This style is also similar to a boogie-woogie piano style.

We'll cover the transition and key change within the song, and show you how to play with a horn section.

This lesson will also demonstrate a way to play this song if you don't have a horn section. You'll also learn the song intro, the verse structure, chorus, and the guitar solo.
