Description
The recording of "Walking in Memphis" centers around a piano and a voice with other instruments supporting the song. For this tutorial, I am using an acoustic guitar to teach you all the chords and rhythms heard throughout the song. This makes it so you can play along with the entire song at the end of our tutorial with the backing track, or just solo if you want.
Guitar #1 is our acoustic guitar that we will use throughout the entire song. I am using a Taylor 614CE with medium gauge strings, and a regular sized, medium pick. This helps nail all the strumming patterns, while also helping play with the dynamics of the song. A song like this with a repeating chord progression is all about playing dynamics, and with the appropriate feel to match the vocals and rest of the arrangement.
Remember as you move along with this tutorial, at the core of our song is a moving chord progression that on it's own sounds great with just a vocal. The big picture goal in this tutorial, whether you are playing just solo, with a band, or just the backing track; is to show you how play this song with dynamics and a good feel. You don't need a crazy chord progression, or difficult guitar parts, to help tell a great story. This song does just that.
