Description

Iron Maiden are certainly one of heavy metal's architects, and their guitar tones have provided the blueprint for all metal guitarists. The interesting thing is that throughout their career, with the occasional exception, they have used Fender Strats (or Strat style) with humbucking pickups played through a cranked up Marshall amp. They have been remarkably consistent with this over the years.

The Strats provide that fast neck to help make the harmony leads easy to play, and the humbuckers add the meat so the guitars sound full and rich. For the leads, simply kick in a treble-booster type pedal before the amp to give some extra gain and sustain - maybe add some echo and chorus for the clean sound.
