Major Scale Intervals

Description

While often used as the power chord shape and sound, our next interval can be used as a nice texture to your soloing as well. The "fifth" interval is a shape we are already familiar and like any of our intervals, can be looked at from a variety of different shapes. Like fourths, these intervals are neither major nor minor and only have one variation from the 7th degree of the scale (a flat fifth.) Grasping these new shapes to your already existing knowledge of this sound serves as a great introduction to this interval.

Here is an introduction to fifths in the key of D major, showing you each note in the scale and it's related fifth interval.

D - A
E - B
F# - C#
G - D
A - E
B - F#
C# - G (flat five)

Let's take a D major scale pattern from Chapter 1 and now find the fifth intervals contained inside this scale pattern. Once we have that under our fingers, try this example in the style of Jim James and Carl Broemel (My Morning Jacket.)
