As for me, I usually recording Guitar songs on my computer with the Windows audio capture. It allows me to record the playing guitar music to MP3, WAV, and other common formats. Still trying everything, and still just as confused. 
Have tried Audacity, Traktion 7 (came with a licence with my UMC 204HD), Cakewalk.
Didn't mind Audacity, didn't like Tracktion much, hated Cakewalk. I'd like to try PreSonus Studio One and Steinberg Cubase, but I'm not that serious I can justify their very serious price.
[br]I think I'll focus on Reaper next I think. Had a preliminary look at it some time back, and it looked good, but quite the learning curve so put it on the 'after I've read its manual' triage of priorities to do list shelf.
[br]Price is right for the enthusiastic amateur, it is well regarded, so it might be right for me too?

Audacity here. A disk was included in the ART Tubemix I purchased. Because it has met what I wanted, I have been lazy to try something else.
This year the diet is definitely gonna stick!

I use Ableton, mainly for my midi keyboard, but I have recorded some guitar with it too...pricey, but pretty easy to use.... lots of plugins, etc.

there is a free version of Presonus Studio one 4 called prime. just register on there site and go to products,software you will see 3 versions of studio one 4 just find prime and click buy. It will charge you nothing.
I learnt how to use that version then brought myself a new audiobox got a free version of Artist with it.

I have tried many software such as free audio recorder, audio converter, but honestly most of them are not lossless software. Luckily I stumble upon the DRmare song recorder for Windows, it is the only software which seems to grab songs losslessly by using the thread recording technology.

Presonus do a free version of Studio one 4 prime which will record upto the capabilities of your imput IE: mp3 to 192 lossless.
just go to there website you may have to register I cant remember they have 3 versions one is Prime just click buy and they bill you nothing.
I used it when I first started recording?

I am not ready to record yet, but I have edited tracks togehter using Audacity. Audacity is free, cross platform, open source software. it is powerful, but relatively easy to use software. As a linux geek, I have tried a few other programs. If you have some experience as an audio engineer, You might give Ardour a look. Ardour is also free and cross platform, but to get the most out of it, you will need some engineer's chops. It is very powerful but the user interface is geared toward an audio professional.

Give Reaper a try first, it's got a full access free trial and does everything protools will do at a much better price and YouTube has hundreds of video tutorials on how to use it.

I use FL Studio. High learning curve.
My intentions are being my own act and producer, the guitar playing came a bit later. So I hope I can enjoy turning my real guitar skills I am learning into other skills too. I am still beginner level on both fronts, taking it slow and enjoying it.
