Description

In this strum pattern, we'll use the fret hand muting technique on the 2 and 4 counts. These counts are known as "the backbeat" and function just like a snare drum on a drum kit. Muting the strum on these counts give your strumming a rhythmic edge and locks you in with the other members of the group. If you're playing solo, it creates the illusion of a drum kit in your strumming. In either scenario it's a highly effective technique. Give it a try and get in the groove!
