Another thing that's great to do in the context of a country shuffle is to play upbeats, meaning the “and's” in between the 1 2 3 and 4. Remember that our groove has a “swing feel” now which means these “and's” are delayed.

This part works well on it's own, but it really shines when another guitar player is playing the basic boogie riff you learned earlier. So for the play through at the end we'll try playing the upbeats over the riff from the previous lesson and see what it sounds like. But first let's break down how to do it.
