In this lesson I'll introduce you to the basic concept of hybrid picking, and we'll practice it with a very simple exercise. Check it out!

First let's zero in on the right hand here. As always you want to hold your pick between your thumb and your 1st finger. Sometimes I support that with my 2nd finger, but that's just when it's not doing anything anyway. And now it will be!

Try a downstroke on the B-string.

Now the idea is to have that ready to go, but also have your 3rd finger ready to "pluck". You sort of pull the string and snap it, try that with the high E-string.

It's pretty tricky at first, but I'm sure you're already starting to see all the doors this technique can open.
