Now let's adapt the basic finger picking pattern to our D chord.

Grab your D minor chord. If you applied the exact same pattern to this chord it doesn't sound horrible, but it definitely doesn't sound right either. That's because our root note is now on the D-string and we need that on beat 1.

So take the whole pattern and move it up a string set. Now our outside strings are the D- and E-string and the inside strings are the G- and B-string.

Remember that the thumb covers the D- and G-string, the 1st finger covers the B-string and 2nd finger covers the E-string.
