When you play this song with only one guitar you can tune to open D and keep the slide on your pinkie. Then you can play the rhythm part with your 1st, 2nd and 3rd finger, and jump in with the slide fills in between the vocal phrases and the solos.

This is the best option if you play in a "power trio" with just bass, drums and you on guitar. But if you have either a rhythm guitar player or a piano or organ player, you can try leaving out the rhythm guitar altogether.
