As always you just need a guitar with 6 strings and a pick for this tutorial. You'll get the most authentic country sound from a steel-string acoustic like the one I'm using, but it's important to remember that you can learn all of this on any guitar and then you can always upgrade or change it down the line. I have a built-in microphone and pickup system in my guitar so that I can plug-in and play through a PA system live or record it directly like I'm doing now. That can be handy to have once you start playing out a lot, but until then you really don't need to worry about it. An acoustic guitar always sounds best, right there in the room where it's being played, and whenever you record it or try to amplify it that's the sound you're trying to replicate.
