What's up, it's Mike from Guitar Tricks, teaching you "Long Time" as made famous by Boston. This is a larger than life classic rock anthem that features timeless soaring vocal melodies and harmonies, powerful guitar riffs, soaring guitar leads and lines, and high drama the whole way.

There are 3 guitar layers in this tutorial. Guitar 1 is the lead guitar that scorches on four solos throughout the tune. Guitar 2 is a crunch guitar that pounds out some thick power chords and riffs. Guitar 3 is an acoustic guitar that comes in during the choruses for a great change in dynamics.

The tune starts out with a melodic guitar solo to kick it all off. The verse section gets its foundation from a simple organ riff, with a crunch guitar adding some power chords for texture. The chorus breaks down to an acoustic guitar and hand claps for a great change of pace. The post chorus section goes halftime and builds the dynamic back up with a dramatic chord progression. There's also a cool interlude section after the guitar solo that adds some great tension and drama leading back into the last verse. The song ends off on a full-band chorus vamp with even more soloing!

For the single guitar performance of this song, you will want to alternate between the lead guitar and crunch guitar throughout. For the chorus sections with the acoustic guitar, play the parts with a clean electric guitar sound.

In the following lessons, we'll talk about power chords and barre chords, dynamics, and some rock lead guitar techniques. We are in the key of F, with a 4/4 time signature, at a tempo of 119 BPM.
