What's up, it's Mike from Guitar Tricks, teaching you "More Than A Feeling" as made famous by Boston. This is a classic rock anthem with all the essential ingredients: a gorgeous 12 string acoustic intro, soaring vocal melodies, and guitars layered into a powerful arrangement with crunching rhythm riffs and screaming harmony leads. The song weaves through a number of dynamic changes from quiet and serene to loud, wide-open rocking out! This is a great tune to learn how to build the dramatic story-arc of a pop-rock song. I’ll teach this song at a beginner level using a 6 string acoustic guitar, but any guitar is suitable to learn the song this way. We'll break the riffs down to simple open chords, and add an easy strumming pattern so you can jam along with the track. We'll also learn to strum at a variety of dynamic levels from quiet to loud. The verse sections start at a low dynamic using softer strumming. Then we'll build to a medium dynamic in the short pre-chorus section that takes us into rocking out with a full dynamic in the chorus. There's also a post-chorus section that ramps us back down to the soft dynamic of the verse, as well as the solo section, which features a high dynamic. In the following lessons, we'll talk about open chords, a simple acoustic strumming pattern, and dynamics. We are in the key of D, with a 4/4 time signature, at a tempo of 109 BPM.
