The tune starts off with a powerful R&B riff using barre chords. Grab an A barre chord shape at the 5th position and hit two powerful downstroke strums to start it off. The next two chords (C#m and Bm) use the same barre chord shape, but this time the root note is on the A string (4th and 2nd position).

Once you have the strumming down, there's not much else to this part. It's important to understand the role of the guitar in an R&B/Motown type song like this. The part is repetitive, so it becomes an integral part of the groove. Your job is to lock in with the rhythm section and carry that groove forward.
