Any guitar with a humbucking pickup in the bridge position is a great choice here. The humbucker provides plenty of clarity and power when playing through a crunchy rock tone.

As far as amps go, any Marshall style tube amp is recommended here. Crank up the preamp gain to get some nice tight rhythm crunch, but nothing too fuzzy or heavy metal sounding. For the lead, you'll want to crank up the drive control for maximum sustain, as well as use the wah pedal to inject your own expression into the solo. Check out the settings I used:

Marshall Plexi Model: Drive: 60% Bass: 35% Mid: 75% Treble: 70% Presence: 75%

Plate Reverb: Wet/Dry : 45% (Rhythm Guitars), 60% (Lead Guitar)
