In this lesson we're gonna try out a very common approach to tuning. This is done by tuning to a chord, very often the D-chord. But when we do this, you'll see that only that specific chord will be in tune- everything else will be out!

This is because of the "equal temperament" tuning concept. The only intervals that are "perfectly" in tune are unisons and octaves. So when you fine tune your D-chord, you are really fine tuning your intervals. And remember, everything has to be equally out of tune, so tuning to chords does not work!
