There are players such as Mark Knopfler, Robby Krieger, and Jeff Beck who get rid of the pick altogether and use only their fingers to play the guitar. This gives the notes a darker, fleshier tone with a little more of a percussive snap to them. We'll look briefly at what finger tone looks and sounds like in this lesson. To examine how finger tone effects your playing, play a common lick that is easy for you and then try playing it with your fingers. You'll find the lick sounds different, but that just may be another tool in your tone toolbox that you'll need in the future.
