Here we discuss a basic exercise that works picking, fretboard fingers and motions about the fretboard. The four combinations of 3 fingers are:

We only demonstrate this exercise with the "123" finger combination, but you should practice with each combination. Drill your weaker combinations to strengthen the hands and improve speed and tone.
As always: remember to use a metronome!
