Downstroke

A strum going from the low pitched E string down towards the high pitched E string. These generally will place added emphasis on the lower notes, and are therefore used exclusively in heavier metal songs, for example. Strumming alternately creates a more relaxed sound, rather than the stabbing, low-end attack required in some instances.
