Line 6 Pod HD500 tutorials?

What would be nice is if someone here at GuitarTricks did some tutorials on the Line 6 Pod HD500.

I have the Pod2 and that is easy to use but this 500 is really hard for me to learn such as creating my own tones, saving them, attributing them to a foot switch etc. Anybody have any ideas on this?

did you try google ,line 6 hd500,or go to ,www,line6.com and peak around there,and im sure there is a line6 forume that you can registar too,that would be ur best bet.good luck.merrychristmas...

There are tons of You Tube demos, but you have to endure what is more players ablility demo.

I just today went to YouTube and found a good tutorial on assigning footswitches to the sounds I need. One almost needs to be a rocket scientist to figure this out. Why can't they have a "Pod HD500 for Dummies" book?

There are tons of tutorials on youtube - some are better as others of course but there should be something for you. I have the HD500 too and don't find it too hard to edit tones. But I always edit on the computer with the Line6 HD500 Edit Software - never on the device itselft. Editing on the device itself it is inconvinient for me.

The manuals are pretty good by the way. Be sure to download the Advanced guide - there's every information you need for editing. The Quickstart guide is OK but not so much information there.

Oh you certainly noticed that the factory presets are crap ;-) Don't judge the quality of the device by them. You can get pretty good tones when you edit yourself.

That's true. I check customtone regularly but it all depends an the Equipment you use - Guitar, Headphone or Boxes, even Pickups.
I ignore the rating system and always try them out my self if I'm interested in a tone. I have downloaded tones with the highest rate and they didn't sound good at all with my equipment others with low rate sounded good.

I think that's part of the negative voices about the HD500. People try patches without tweaking it to their taste or use the factory presets.
In my opinion the HD500 really comes to live when tweaking your own tones with your equipment and most important with your ears.

Its good to check on the HD 500 five star patches and which genre of guitar was used, but I still believe it is a good thing to check out the five star patches.
There was a five star patch called "Brick House" that I would have never figured out editing myself, but it is the best funk sound I have ever heard!

I have the line 6 pod hd 500x... but I know they are very similar, and I had to put in some serious manual reading time before really grasping whats going on haha..

To assign footswitches, I hold down the "move" button I believe.. then u just press which footswitch u want to assign to. be mindful of if it is highlighted or not- I sometimes use one footswitch to turn on one effect while turning another off(such as reverb/distortion, or wah/delay, etc).

I don't "love" most patches I am finding on the line 6 site, altho the slash Tokyo 92 one is tight. there were some others I dug, just blanking at moment. RATM was cool, as was one tom petty one I think? I think most distortions I saw on there are insanely metal, which is fine, but these days I don't really have a need for 10927489 metal patches.. Basically turn up the angel/tread/marshall and you are there already!!

I don't think I am a master as I got distracted from patches when I bought my JTV 59 and have been showing more attention to creating guitar tones, but I have a pretty good knowledge of how to adjust settings/effects etc

oh and in addition- I recently figured out that I can put hd500 patches on my 500x.. maybe look into seeing if you can use patches for the older models on your 500? Part of me thinks you cant, but it is worth trying. You just have to make sure when you go to "open patch" on the software you choose "any file" not "all pod hd 500" files.

I open 500x patches on the 500. Just rename them to .h5e and open it in Line6 Edit. The only problem is that with some patches you run into a DSP overload because the 500x has ~20 more DSP Power.

Is it possible to assign 8 patches to 1 set?

Or is it always 4 & the other footswitches turn on & off effects for 1 of the 4 patches?
