New to Guitar Tricks

Hello I consider myself a beginner to intermediate player looking to get better.  Some of the introductory lessons don't appeal to me since I am past that.  Where and how would the best path for me to take.  I like classic rock. Tend to play more rhythm style and looking to expand and get away from just strumming songs.  Been playing on and off for 40 years and definitely have more time on my hand. 

Thanks for any advice on how to best use the tool.

There's a lot here, so there are a number of ways to jump in.

1.  Level 2 of either (or both) the rock or blues tracks.


2. Go to the Artist studies portion of the website, find a favorite guitarist, work your way through.


3. Pick some of the higher level songs available (after a few you'll get a general feel for the difficulty level).  When you run into a technique issue (fingering, bending, whatever) use search to go through the extensive (!) content for that particular skill and work on it.


4. Think like you've been booked for a set, choose the songs to fill that set(s) and then work the hell out of the songs until you can nail them.


5. There are a lot of what I think of as "jump off" points that lead you to all kinds of cool places:  Ander's weekly video check ins, going through the "news" stuff that they publicly post on you tube.  Go through the "techniques" section and try something new (sweep picking for me).  Even though it may not be your thing, you may hear something that inspires.

True that the sheer amount of stuff here can be intimidating but it doesn't take long to learn your way around.

They are not necessary per se to the streamlined core learning system, but will help once a student develops more interest in a certain style or technique.

At any level you should look for songs you enjoy, want to play & are close to your skill level. After all, that's why we learn all these ideas & skills, in order to play music! And that happens in the form of songs!

Quite often in the process of learning a song is when you will discover some new concept or technique that you have to learn in order to play the song & improve your guitar playing in general. Or you find a weak area in your knowledge or skill that needs practice & improvement. That's when the more detailed tutorials can help.
