Anyone know any good lessons out there on Powderfinger?

I'm bomb-requesting for Neil Young songs but maybe I'm a lone voice in Neil's awesome wilderness.

Can it be possible, with his huge portfolio, there is not a single Neil Young song lesson on Guitar Tricks?!?!?!?!?!? I went to "Songs" and clicked on "Artists". And, because of the goofy way things are alphabetized here, looked under both N and Y. And no Neil Young.

Shocking.

Someday, I hope to learn "Cowgirl in the Sand". but that's a long way off.

Good luck in your search! I was absolutely no help, was I!?

Powderfinger is such a good song!

I worked on that one a bit last trying to pick it up from playing the song.

I know. I've asked a few times but never get a straight answer on how he can be overlooked...I mean...come on..He's a guitar legend. Just imagine how much we could learn from Down by the river alone.

Powderfinger as medium difficuty with an awesome solo and maybe Thrasher for just such a good acoustic singalong.

I reckon there must be heaps of Neil fans on this site requesting away in desperation?

Firstly I very much doubt he has been "overlooked". I dont know who owns the rights to his songs, but it may be Neil himself and he seems to be very much his own man. Wouldn't surprise me if he just didn't like making his music available to other commercial interests whether they paid or not. That's just a feeling I have.

With respect to Powderfinger, I had a little "Neil Young" fest a couple of years back and learned a number of his songs. Powderfinger was one of them. When I say "learned" I only played electric rythm parts, but they were a blast. I played along with a live version of Powderfinger and loved it ( no way I could learn his solos!!!!). I found the basic chords required in a free online site called "Ultimate Guitar Tabs " or something very close to that. Just find a strum pattern that works for you.

Give it a go.

Yeah suspect you're right. Gonna have to have a word with the man...come on Neil..me ol' mate..

I've got a fair amount under my belt too and can play along quite happily with a few of his songs but one of the reasons I'm here is because the song lessons are so well broken down compared to most anything else out there.

Ah well...will hang in there and hope powers that be fork out or get rights one day. I have asked the obvious question before: "Should I simply stop requesting Neil and Jimi songs because it will never happen"? but have been told to 'keep the requests coming'...so I do.

Anders stopped me from bailing with his recent Stones barrage so happy camper at moment.

Tinpan,

I don't know how much this will help. It certainly is not about a lesson on Powderfinger. But maybe it will help with practicing it after you acquire some knowledge on the song. Maybe you can transcribe some of it or find some begining lesson on YT or elsewhere.

And if you are already familiar with Karaoke Backing Tracks just further ignore me.

I find, surprisingly, that a lot of us guitar students are not familiar with them.

Here is a custom backing track for Powderfinger on Karaoke. And let me explain what is meant by a custom backing track.

First off, these are backing tracks, not jam tracks. These are specific songs with tracks for each of the instruments and vocals for that song. Using Powderfinger as our example, one can buy a backing track with the following versions: with and without vocals, full version and one with just guitar. And it is only $2!!!

But what really makes this site cool, at least to me. are their custom backing tracks. For only $1 more one can change the backing just about as many ways as you can imagine and then redownload it. Want it without vocals? Download it! Want it without lead guitar? Download it! Want it without lead guitar AND without vocals? Download it! Want it in a different key? Change it and download it. Ad infinitum.

I, unfortunately, bought a few tracks before I learned about their custom backing tracks. but they're so cheap I went back and bought the custom tracks, changed them and downloaded the ones I wanted.

I'm not sure how your word with Mr. Young went.

That's awesome thanks Maton!! Karaoke can afford Neil by look of it.
