Hi All,
I have taken some lessons in the past and am reviewing alot of the beginner material. Once you are past the Guitar fundamentals section does it make sense to do blues before rock? I have always been told most rock was created from blues. Any thoughts?

Thank you!!

Hi dj207,

The Guitartricks course on Rock does indeed mention that it originates from the Blues. Anders actually teaches some blues concepts in the Rock course. The last chapter of Rock guitar level 1 is actually called "Born from the blues."

But therefore it isn't necessary to start with Blues instead of Rock. Anders (the teacher of both courses) does an excellent job to start with either genre when you are finished with Guitar Fundamentals 2. Both build very strong fundamentals and it doesn't matter which one you choose. So instead you should ask yourself: Which genre do I prefer? Based on that you should move on to either Rock or Blues.

But don't get me wrong, BOTH COURSES ARE EXCELLENT! You can't go wrong with either one. Once you are finished with one you can start with the other. In my opinion all the courses (even country) are incredibly valuable.

Have fun!

JJ

I suggest that after you move on to either one for 2 or 3 weeks, come back and watch Guitar fundamentals 2 again. You have so much coming at you in a short amount of time it’s hard if not impossible to absorb it. You may be surprised how many things snap into place on the second time through after you have tried to apply it for a couple weeks.

I don't think there's a wrong answer here, but for the sake of going with the foundational genre, I'd say blues before rock.

I would say its up to you where you want to start and what direction you want to go?however I would recommend both as you will want to incorporate rock licks in your blues playing etc. blues is a great place to start to get some good rhythm down and one great thing about the blue is most players find one or two really great licks and build a full career upon them i.e.. BB King , Eric Clapton , Buddy Guy etc......hope this helps:)
