I just brought an acoustic for my girlfriend and don't know what guage it come with... I'm pretty sure most guitars come with the same ones so maybe someone on here can help.

.... I dont think guitars really come with a standard gauge... but 0.09s are the most common...

wow, 0.09 are pretty thin for an acoustic guitar!!! I'd say that for beginners, it's rather good to start with a 0.11 on an acoustic, thinner would make your guitar sound like some weird hollow electric...

Acoustic guitars usually are strung with a set that has 4 wound strings. So, it has to either be at least 012's or 013's.

When you buy a guitar, (hopefully) the neck is set to guage of the strings it was originally strung with. If you want lighter or heavier strings your best bet is to take it to your local shop and have your neck set for what you wish.

Most accoustics are originally strung with poor quality 13's which can stretch over time on the wall of the store.

I'd find a string that she's comfortable with (over the first couple weeks / months) and then have it set up for those. Your intonation will be better and they'll stay in tune much longer.
